40 Swimmers and 30 Kayakers Take Part in 9th Annual Distant Memories Swim

On July 30, seventy swimmers and kayakers took part in the 9th Annual Distant Memories Swim. The swim was spearheaded by Bryan Proctor, a Northport resident who started the swim as a way to raise money for Alzheimer's Association Long Island and to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease. This issue is very close to Mr. Proctor, as his grandfather and aunt passed away from Alzheimer's disease.

Virginia Belling, the senior vice president and retail banking regional executive for New York Community Bank's Roslyn Savings Bank Division, has announced that, for the third year in a row, the bank will make a donation in the amount of $15,000 to Alzheimer Association Long Island's Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Alzheimer's Association Long Island has announced that Team Half Penny Pub in Bay Shore will take part in the East End Walk to End Alzheimer's in Riverhead on August 25. This is the team's first-ever Walk to End Alzheimer's.

On September 8, Alzheimer’s Association Long Island will hold its 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer’s/Fall Festival, presented by Roslyn Saving Bank, a division of New York Community Bank. The Walk will take place at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage. This is a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) walk and will be held, rain or shine.

Take out Alzheimer’s disease with that “Winner Shot." The BERTS TENNIS event to benefit Alzheimer's Association Long Island will take place August 17 at Sportime, 175 Merrick Rd. in Lynbrook from 7-9 p.m.

Alzheimer's Association Long Island is holding its two East End Walks to End Alzheimer's™ events for 2012. The second annual Long Island East End Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place on August 25 at Atlantis Marine World, located at 431 Main Street in Riverhead. On October 20, the East End Walk & Fall Festival will be held at the Village Green on Main Street in Westhampton Beach.
