Gary Reiswig to Read "The Thousand Mile Stare"

Gary Reiswig will read his book "The Thousand Mile Stare: One Family's Journey through the Science and Struggle of Alzheimer's" on Saturday, August 6 at the Amagansett Library, 215 Main Street in Amagansett. The reading will begin at 6 p.m.

In his book, Gary discusses his family's experience with Young Onset Alzheimer's. Since the 1930s, there have been 85 such cases in the United States — all under the age of 65.

For generations, Gary's family has suffered through the horrible fate of Early Onset Alzheimer's. Gary was one of less than a handful of family members who did not carry the gene. The Reiswigs' genetics are so meaningful to the study of the disease that they became a study themselves to help understand the disease and its causes and, hopefully, help lead scientists to the direction of a cure.
